It may have taken 11 years, but our beloved Irish lad Hozier is taking us to church yet again with a standout single that has snuck up on everyone, and fans old and new are not disappointed. Last Friday (March 22), Hozier’s new EP, ‘Unheard,’ aired on the side of irony when the spotlight song ‘Too Sweet‘ debuted at No. 2 on Spotify’s U.S. chart, opening with 3.342 million streams.

It fell second only to Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar’s latest track, ‘Like That,’ which opened at No. 1, but the margin was slim, with ‘Too Sweet’ falling behind by only 400,000 plays. It should be noted that globally the song debuted at No. 10 with 4.867 million streams, respectively.

Here stateside, it seems Hozier has found his way back into the hearts and imaginations of a plethora of listeners in a way that seems poised to take the charts. Against the easy-to-digest pop radio complete with fanciful reiterations of the same lyrics and an endless loop of Taylor Swift songs from 10 years ago—it all feels like the depth of a kiddie pool.
